Inspirado en Batman, Hugh Hefner y James Bond, Maluma construyó al nuevo personaje al que da vida en su álbum “Don Juan”, un material que, asegura en una entrevista con EFE, “es más emocional, pero también racional».

Juan Luis Londoño Arias, mejor conocido como Maluma, pasa los días en Los Ángeles ensayando de seis a ocho horas diarias el nuevo espectáculo con el que se embarcará en 30 fechas por Estados Unidos y con el que mostrará a sus seguidores la cara de un hombre que él mismo todavía no conoce.

“A mí me gusta montarme a los personajes (…) Apenas estamos desarrollándolo. Ver a Don Juan en vivo va a ser muy interesante”, dice el cantante de 29 años que comenzará su gira “Don Juan World Tour” el 31 de agosto en Sacramento, California (EE.UU.).

Sin embargo, en su imaginación, su versión del personaje arquetípico de la literatura española es “picante”, pero también “maduro” y, resume, es un hombre que “toma decisiones».

También es la reencarnación mejorada de Papi Juancho, el último alter ego que creó en 2020 para su álbum homónimo y que lo acompañó por los escenarios del mundo por dos años.

Dicho disco, el último de formato largo y personal antes de “Don Juan”, según detalla, fue un trabajo de agradecimiento y de sentirse orgulloso de sus raíces latinas y colombianas, del que se desprendieron temas como “Hawái” y “Parce».

Después, Londoño exploró sonidos jamaiquinos en «#7DJ (7 días en Jamaica)?” y con “The Sex and Love Tape” hizo un recorrido por el reguetón tradicional y las letras más explícitas de su carrera.

En esta octava producción, que verá la luz en su totalidad el 25 de agosto, Maluma muestra la faceta más paciente y minuciosa de su trabajo como músico a partir de 18 canciones y seis pistas adicionales, “hechas a la medida” para esta producción.

“Los demás álbumes siempre los acababa en medio de una gira, los grababa en bus, en el avión y ahora nos sentamos en el estudio con tiempo para discutir sobre lo que realmente queríamos hacer y llevamos esto a otro nivel musical”, explica.

El originario de Medellín, Colombia, navega por ritmos electrónicos, de pop, bachata, regional mexicano y reguetón, sin limitaciones a la hora de mezclar géneros. Sus colaboraciones reúnen a ídolos del reguetón como Don Omar, Yandel y Jowell & Randy, de la salsa como Marc Anthony, así como nuevas figuras como Carin León, quien se dedica principalmente al regional mexicano, o Ryan Castro, en el urbano.

“Traté de que este álbum fuera más diverso (…) Era como aportar un poquito de nuestra cultura latina al mundo entero y demostrar de qué estamos hechos”, asevera.
ADIÓS AL 360º
A finales de 2021, Maluma comenzó su gira internacional “Papi Juancho” en Sacramento (EE.UU.) y la terminó a finales de 2022 en Cali (Colombia). El concepto del tour era un imponente escenario 360º en el que el cantante tenía que entretener a las multitudes que lo acechaban por todos lados del escenario y que lo dejaban “sin escapatoria”, bromea.

“Todo lo que aprendí ahí lo voy a sumar a esta gira (…) He contado con un equipo de trabajo que me ha ayudado a materializar todas estas ideas y estamos trabajando en cómo un escenario interpreta un álbum”, adelanta. Maluma ha buscado diversificarse también fuera del ámbito musical, pues hace un año presentó su mezcal Contraluz, debutó en el cine en la película “Marry Me” junto a Jennifer Lopez y amplió su carrera empresarial con el lanzamiento del sello discográfico Royalty Records, uno de los proyectos que lo motivan a continuar con su trabajo.

“Es la casa de todos estos artistas que no se sienten quizás escuchados y que no han recibido un buen apoyo de su misma gente, de un pueblo. Aquí les abrimos las puertas y tratamos de ayudarlos a cumplir sus sueños”, afirma. Convencido de que es uno de los artistas que más duro trabaja, Maluma confiesa que no sabe qué posición tiene dentro de la industria aunque se sabe privilegiado. “Yo creo que la posición me la dan mis fans”, finaliza.
