Matías se encontraba en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de un centro médico de La Vega, de donde era oriundo.
Matías había estado aquejado de múltiples enfermedades relacionadas con el estómago, garganta y piel a lo largo de los años, llegando a perder una considerable cantidad de peso y sometiéndose a intervenciones quirúrgicas, incluyendo la extirpación parcial de su estómago.
