HOUSTON – Fue un fin de semana de torbellino para Jasson Domínguez, quien sonreía de oreja a oreja mientras estaba parado frente a su casillero en el clubhouse de los visitantes la noche del domingo, un recuento de las 72 horas previas en las cuales “El Marciano” se hizo sentir como en casa en la llamada Ciudad Espacial.

Habiendo conectado ya un cuadrangular frente al futuro Salón de la Fama, Justin Verlander, con su primer swing en las Mayores, Domínguez lo volvió a hacer, disparando el jonrón de la ventaja que marcó la pauta para que los repentinamente jóvenes Yankees ganaran por 6-1 y completaran una extraña barrida de los Astros en Minute Maid Park.

Mientras Domínguez se prepara para su debut en Yankee Stadium el martes en contra de los Tigres, el súper prospecto de 20 años indicó que habrá mucho más que ver.

“Creo que va a ser algo grande”, exclamó Domínguez. “Pienso que va a ser genial”.

Domínguez conectó un tablazo de dos carreras en la sexta entrada frente al abridor dominicano de Houston, Cristian Javier, para ayudar a los Yankees a registrar su primera barrida de tres juegos sobre Houston desde el 27-29 de septiembre del 2013, serie que marcó los últimos juegos en el roster de jugadores activos para el panameño Mariano Rivera y el zurdo Andy Pettitte.

En aquel entonces se trataba de una despedida; ahora, todo tiene que ver con mirar hacia el futuro.

“Obviamente, nada ha salido como hubiésemos deseado este año, pero estamos jugando por mucho”, manifestó el piloto Aaron Boone. “Nunca sabes qué puede pasar. Sólo queremos saltar al terreno y jugar nuestro mejor béisbol, y con suerte hacer ruido este mes. ¿Quién sabe?”.
