NUEVA YORK.-La Alcaldía de Nueva York lanzó hoy una serie de videos con información legal para los inmigrantes que buscan solicitar asilo en Estados Unidos, y que no han parado de llegar a esta ciudad desde agosto del pasado año.
Los videos, en inglés y español, contienen información importante que deben conocer como parte de su caso de inmigración, incluido el papel del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE), cómo actualizar su dirección con las agencias federales -miles están en albergues en esta ciudad-, cómo entender los documentos de inmigración y qué esperar de las citas con ICE y las cortes de inmigración.
Más de 65.000 inmigrantes, en su mayoría venezolanos, han llegado a Nueva York desde el pasado año, de los que más de 39.400 están en albergues y 120 hoteles alquilados por la ciudad para alojarles, a los que se les provee de alimentos, servicios sociales y legales y escuelas para los niños.
Esto ha llevado a que se hayan tenido que abrir 130 refugios de emergencia, tras la saturación de los albergues de la ciudad y ocho centros de ayuda humanitaria. También se abrió un centro para conectar a los solicitantes de asilo con diversos recursos, registrar a los niños en las escuelas, a lo que se suman ahora los vídeos.
El alcalde Eric Adams indicó en un comunicado que con estos vídeos, los inmigrantes estarán mejor informados para manejar los complejos problemas de inmigración que enfrentan.
“Con la escasez de servicios legales y los proveedores legales abrumados, esta administración está adoptando una postura proactiva para garantizar que los solicitantes de asilo tengan la información que necesitan para comprender su caso de inmigración y nuestro sistema legal”, indicó por su parte el comisionado de la Oficina de Asuntos de Inmigrantes de la Alcaldía, Manuel Castro.
Estos videos estarán en varios canales de redes sociales y se reproducirán en refugios de emergencia, Centros de Ayuda y Respuesta de Emergencia humanitaria (HERRC) y otros lugares.
