Hay películas que logran convertirse en fenómeno incluso antes de estrenarse. El ‘boom’ de “Barbie”, filme dirigido por Greta Gerwig, así lo prueba, al conseguir que tanto apasionados amantes de la muñeca como aquellos a los que le resulta indiferente aguarden con interés su lanzamiento.

La cinta, protagonizada por Margot Robbie (Barbie) y Ryan Gosling (Ken), llega a EE.UU., Europa y diversos países latinos este jueves con grandes posibilidades de convertirse en uno de los títulos del año, a pesar de que la huelga del Sindicato de Actores de Hollywood (SAG-AFTRA) haya ensombrecido su última semana de promoción.

Ternura, píldoras de humor y un profundo sentido crítico acerca de los roles de género impuestos por la sociedad se fusionan en una película que vuelve a poner de manifiesto la visión de Gerwig (“Lady Bird»), una cineasta que brilló con subgéneros independientes y que hoy es una de las mayores revelaciones de la industria.

“Barbie” contó con un presupuesto de 100 millones de dólares para materializar una obra que continúa el legado de hasta una treintena de versiones audiovisuales de la famosa muñeca, que fue animada por primera vez en el especial para televisión “Barbie and the Rockers- Out of This World” de 1987.

Robbie asegura que “no podría estar más feliz” con el resultado, un filme con excelentes actuaciones, vestuario y música que combina la parodia.

“Es divertidísima, inteligente, llena de corazón y aporta una mirada mucho más profunda de lo que uno espera de una película de Barbie”, expresó la actriz America Ferrera, que interpreta al personaje de Gloria en el filme, durante una entrevista con EFE previa al estreno.

Los guiños a éxitos como «2001- A Space Odyssey”, la creatividad y la originalidad en la forma de narrar -con escenas basadas en el mundo ficticio de ‘Barbieland’ y otras dentro del mundo real- son algunas de las fortalezas de una cinta que, ante todo, pretende transmitir un mensaje de inclusión.

La pregunta, o más bien el debate, que resuena de fondo durante toda la obra es si históricamente la muñeca ha sido capaz de expandir un mensaje de superación con sus variadas formas y posibilidades profesionales o si, por el contrario, contribuyó a afianzar crueles estándares de belleza.

Casi 65 años después de que Ruth Handler -fundadora de la empresa juguetera Mattel- sacara al mercado la muñeca, Gerwig decidió reflexionar sobre cuestiones relacionadas con la representación femenina, el empoderamiento y hasta la masculinidad tóxica, muy presentes en la sociedad.

Y, a pesar de que la película está producida por Warner Bros. y la propia Mattel, hay opiniones para todos los gustos y comentarios críticos con la compañía, cuya creación llega a ser calificada por una de las personajes como “una herramienta del capitalismo sexualizado que hizo retroceder años al movimiento feminista».
