SANTO DOMINGO.— El Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil (IDAC) y funcionarios de la Junta de Aviación Civil (JAC) sostuvieron un encuentro con ejecutivos de la aerolínea JetBlue, para buscar fórmulas que puedan disminuir el alto costo de los pasajes aéreos entre Estados Unidos y República Dominicana.

La información la ofrecio, Héctor Porcella, subdirector del IDAC, quien dijo que se reunió con la presidenta y directora de operaciones de la aerolínea JetBlue, Johanna Geraghty, quien estuvo acompañada de Michael Quiello, jefe de personal; Adam Schless director de Actas de Aeronaves Y  Alexis Morel, Manager Regional para los Aeropuertos en América Latina.

Agregó que la reducción de la tarifa  aérea, la inclusión de una primera maleta libre de cargos y  la eliminación  del cobro de  la tarjeta de turista a los dominicanos que ingresan al país, estuvieron entre los temas centrales tratados en la reunión.

El director del IDAC estuvo acompañado de Antonio Yapor, embajador alterno ante la OACI y miembro de la Junta de Aviación Civil, quien expuso la posición de su organismo durante la consulta.

Porcella explicó que uno de los puntos analizados en el encuentro procura fijar una tarifa, en beneficio de la diáspora dominicana que no sobrepase los 500 dólares, con impuestos incluidos.

Los representantes del IDAC y la Junta de Aviación Civil propusieron igualmente que en el caso de los dominicanos residentes en Estados Unidos sean exonerados del pago de la primera maleta, tal como lo vienen reclamando los dominicanos que viajan a través de JetBlue, apuntó Porcella.

“Igualmente planteamos dos propuestas razonables para que sean consideradas por JetBlue como presidente de turno de la IATA (Asociación Internacional de Transporte Aéreo): la primera implicaría modificar sus sistemas informáticos para eliminar el cobro a los dominicanos de la tarjeta de turistas en la boletería; y la segunda, eliminar las pruebas de antígenos para los viajeros que ingresan a Estados Unidos desde la República Dominicana”, indicó Porcella.

Manifestó que los puntos sometidos por el IDAC y la JAC encontraron receptividad y buena disposición entre los altos ejecutivos de la aerolínea norteamericana, prometiendo analizar cada uno de los puntos y responder en un plazo razonable

Porcella reveló que la delegación de Jet Blue se reunió previamente con el presidente Luis Abinader, quien les manifestó a los ejecutivos de la aerolínea su interés de procurar soluciones a las comunidades dominicanas en el exterior, que desde hace mucho tiempo reclaman condiciones más favorables para mantenerse en contacto regular y permanente con el país.

 

La presidenta y ejecutivos de JetBlue presentes en la República Dominicana, estuvieron acompañados de los asesores legales Luis Pellerano y Urania Paulino.
