Con motivo de celebrarse este martes 7 de noviembre el Día Nacional del Deporte, el Ministerio de Deportes y Recreación (Miderec) efectuará varias actividades conmemorativas, que incluyen ofrendas florales y reconocimiento a siete figuras que han incidido en el desarrollo atlético de la República Dominicana.
El ministro Francisco Camacho iniciará las actividades del “Día del Deporte” a las 9:00 de la mañana, con el depósito de ofrenda en el busto del llamado “Padre del Olimpismo dominicano”, Juan Ulises García Saleta (Wiche), ubicado frente al velódromo olímpico.
Para este acto, funcionarios y empleados del Miderec, invitados del Comité Olímpico, federaciones, atletas y deportistas en general, partirán desde la explanada frontal del edificio administrativo de dicho ministerio, en el Centro Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte.
Para las 11:00 A.M., en el salón de actos James Rodríguez de la cartera deportiva, está pautado el homenaje a siete figuras nacionales que han hecho importantes aportes al devenir atlético, desde diferentes funciones.
Las personalidades por reconocer son, el periodista y funcionario de larga data, Heriberto Morrison Fortunato; el exbeisbolista de aficionados exaltado al Pabellón de la Fama, Juan Manuel -Piñao- Ortiz Carram; el licenciado José Manuel Camarena Lamarche, y Pablo Reyes, el legendario “Señor Tomás”, administrador del Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto.
También incluye sendos homenajes póstumos al exfuncionario José Daniel “Mackey” Calzada Hernando; el periodista Renaldo Bodden Peguero; y el emblemático profesor de Educación Física, Rafael Heredia Abreu.
El Miderec tiene apartado para las 2:00 de la tarde del martes, el depósito de una ofrenda floral en el Altar de la Patria, en el Parque Independencia, donde reposan los restos de los Padres de la Patria, Juan Pablo Duarte, Matías Ramón Mella y Francisco del Rosario Sánchez.
El Día Nacional del Deporte en República Dominicana se estableció en 1963 para celebrarse el 7 de noviembre de cada año, mediante decreto del entonces presidente del país Rafael F. Bonnelly.
