EL PORTAVOZ,EL NUEVO DIARIO, MIAMI.- El candidato presidencial republicano Donald Trump recibió este viernes en su casa vacacional de Mar-a-Lago (Florida) al primer ministro de Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, un día después de que el líder israelí se reuniera por separado con el presidente de EE.UU., Joe Biden, y la vicepresidenta, Kamala Harris, en la Casa Blanca.
Trump recibió con gesto de cercanía al mandatario israelí en la puerta de su mansión y ambos se saludaron dándose la mano con firmeza, para luego pasar al interior, según se observa en un video publicado en redes sociales por miembros de la campaña del expresidente.
Tras el recibimiento al primer ministro israelí y a la esposa de éste, Sara Netanyahu, ambos ingresaron al interior de la mansión para sostener una reunión que se prevé transcurra a puerta cerrada y que puede durar entre dos y tres horas.
Netanyahu viajó esta semana a Washington para dirigirse al Congreso e instar a los funcionarios electos a que continúen el apoyo de Estados Unidos a Israel en su guerra contra Hamás en Gaza.
Tras arribar al aeropuerto de Fort Lauderdale, el mandatario israelí llegó alrededor del mediodía a Mar-a-Lago, cuyas inmediaciones amanecieron hoy con un fuerte dispositivo policial y cerradas al tráfico las calles que dan a la residencia del expresidente (2017-2021).
Cerca de medio centenar de manifestantes propalestinos se concentraron en Southern Boulevard, el puente que conduce a la isla de Palm Beach, donde se ubica la mansión y club social de Trump en el sur de Florida.
No obstante, la Policía del condado de Palm Beach señaló que habían dispuesto de espacio a ambos lados de la carretera para que la gente saludara o se manifestara en contra o a favor.
Ante las preocupaciones en torno a la seguridad, en especial tras el reciente intento de asesinato del expresidente Trump, el alguacil Ric Bradshaw señaló que su dependencia lleva cuatro años de entrenamiento para brindarle protección al exmandatario y que nunca han tenido ningún fallo.
Netanyahu arribó a Florida proveniente de Washington, donde el miércoles ofreció un discurso en el Congreso y el jueves sostuvo un encuentro con Biden y con la presumible candidata demócrata a la Presidencia, Kamala Harris.
La probable candidata demócrata a la presidencia después de que Biden se retirara de la carrera, advirtió a Netanyahu que «no se quedará callada» ante el sufrimiento humano en Gaza.
