El presidente de la República Dominicana, Luis Abinader, ha sido premiado hoy en el marco de Fitur por su apoyo al sector turístico junto a organismos y profesionales del ámbito del turismo, la gastronomía y la cultura de España y de otros países de Iberoamérica.

Los Premios Excelencias 2021, creados hace 17 años por el Grupo Excelencias, se entregan anualmente en la feria de turismo de Fitur, que ha abierto hoy en Madrid sus puertas, con el objetivo de reconocer la excelencia del sector del turismo, la gastronomía y la cultura en toda Iberoamérica.

Cuatro han sido las categorías de este año, con varios apartados: Premio Espíritu de Excelencia, Premio Excelencias Turísticas, Premio Excelencias Gourmet, Premio Excelencias In Memorian y un reconocimiento especial al presidente de República Dominicana, Luis Abinader, por su apoyo al sector turístico.

En total, los galardones iberoamericanos han reconocido a una treintena de entidades y personajes en distintas categorías, en una edición en la que ha tenido especial peso la sostenibilidad.

El Grupo Curricanes de restauración de Tamaulipas (México) ha sido galardonado por su modelo de negocio ecosostenible y de economía colaborativa. También han sido reconocidos el trabajo del Ayuntamiento de Orizaba (Veracruz, México) y la Secretaría de Turismo del Gobierno de México.

La XVII edición de los galardones -que se eligen a propuesta de un grupo de expertos- ha premiado este año también a Procolombia, organismo encargo de promover el turismo del país latinoamericano, y la iniciativa NH Room 4 Planet del grupo hotelero NH, por sus esfuerzos en sostenibilidad.

También destaca el galardón a la provincia de Río Grande (Norte en Brasil) por su oferta turística y gastronómica "con visión internacional", junto a otros premiados de Perú, Argentina, Panamá y otros países del cono sur.

En España, los premios han destacado en esta edición la labor del Consejo Regulador de Vinos de la isla canaria de La Palma, la ciudad de Gijón y Valladolid, el Instituto Orensano de Desarrollo Económico y el Grupo Lezama, por sus numerosas iniciativas en el sector del turismo y la gastronomía a lo largo de 2021.

En el apartado Personajes Gourmet, destacan los reconocimientos a los cocineros españoles Karlos Arguiñano, por el acercamiento de la cocina a los hogares españoles; y al extremeño Emilio José Martín Maquedano, en el apartado revelación, por su propuesta de kilometro cero.

La periodista española Pilar Salas, responsable de gastronomía de la Agencia Efe, ha recibido un premio en la misma categoría por su numerosos trabajos periodísticos dedicados a difundir los valores de la gastronomía española e iberoamericana.

El Grupo Excelencias, con representación en varios países europeos y latinoamericanos, cumple 25 años este año.
