SANTO DOMINGO.-Ante el incremento de los casos positivos del virus del Covid-19 que registra el país en los últimos días, la Sociedad Dominicana de Infectología llama a que se retome el uso de mascarillas en lugares públicos y privados, incluyendo las escuelas y el distanciamiento físico como medida preventiva.

La entidad que agrupa a los especialistas de la infectología del país asegura que ha estado recibiendo reportes frecuentes de contagio en los centros educativos que están obligando a aislar a un gran número de estudiantes.

La presidenta de la sociedad, doctora Clevy Pérez, señaló que en su caso particular está recibiendo entre 1 a 4 casos de pacientes con el virus por día después de haber tenido hasta varias semanas consecutivas sin ver ni uno sólo y que eso se está reproduciendo en los demás especialistas que ha consultado.

En un comunicado emitido a propósito del incremento de los casos de Covid-19, la Sociedad de Infectología señala que, en los últimos días, se ha observado un incremento de casos del virus tanto en las emergencias como en las consultas de los principales centros de salud del país.

“Dada la situación actual, consideramos pertinente que las autoridades lleven a cabo medidas de prevención para evitar una oleada significativa de casos similar a la observada hace cinco meses”, indica.

Señala que la Sociedad Dominicana de Infectología (SDI), como entidad que agrupa a especialistas en el estudio, prevención, diagnóstico y manejo de las enfermedades infecciosas, recomienda a las autoridades detectar y reportar las variantes circulantes del virus SARS-CoV-2 en el país.

También retomar el uso de mascarilla en instituciones públicas y privadas, incluyendo centros educativos donde se están recibiendo reportes frecuentes de contagio que están obligando a aislar a un gran número de estudiantes. Recomienda reforzar el programa de vacunación dado que la inmunización ha logrado reducir las complicaciones y mortalidad por Covid-19 y mantener el abastecimiento de los medicamentos utilizados en el tratamiento de los pacientes que lo requieran, tanto ambulatorios como hospitalizados e incluir aquellos aprobados para su uso en pacientes de alto riesgo que aún no están disponibles en el país.

Recomienda a la población mantener medidas de aislamiento ante síntomas respiratorios para limitar la transmisión de SARS-CoV-2 y otros virus circulantes, así como buscar atención médica oportuna en caso d
