EL PORTAVOZ, SANTO DOMINGO.- El Gobierno amplió en el Gran Santo Domingo el programa de Transporte Escolar (Trae), el cual inició en enero de este año con un plan piloto en distintas comunidades del país, movilizando hasta la fecha a 867,960 estudiantes.

Según informaron en la actividad encabezada por el presidente Luis Abinader, está contemplado incorporar en los próximos tres meses 500 autobuses más, (20% de los cuales serán a través de MIPYMES), para expandir trae a las provincias de Santiago de los Caballeros (165 unidades), Duarte (45), Puerto Plata (73), La Altagracia (52), La Romana (40), San Pedro de Macorís (36), San Juan de la Maguana (39) y Barahona (50).

El jefe de Estado dijo que «uno de los objetivos era llevar un transporte a esas familias de escasos recursos, quienes hacen esfuerzos sobrenaturales para que sus hijos lleguen a sus escuelas».

Asimismo, aseguró que, para el próximo año, 2024, se espera extender dicho plan a todo el país.

De su lado, el ministro de Educación, Ángel Hernández, expresó que “se acabó la incertidumbre de los padres y madres al enviar a sus hijos solos a la escuela. Se acabó que las familias tengan que comprometer un alto porcentaje de su salario para que sus hijos lleguen a las escuelas”.

Sobre el piloto

El plan piloto inició con 50 autobuses, y luego incrementaron a 65 unidades, propiedad de OMSA. Estos fueron puestos en operación en la Victoria, Yamasá, Peralvillo, Sabana Grande de Boyá, Bayaguana, Monte Plata, Haina, Nigua y Palenque, Cambita.
