El Gobierno dejó iniciados los trabajos para la construcción del proyecto Residencia de Acogida de Adultos Mayores Sor Juana María Valdez, en Constanza, complejo diseñado para favorecer a las personas de la tercera edad, uno de los segmentos más vulnerables de la población.
El acto estuvo encabezado por el viceministro de Relaciones con la Sociedad Civil, Benny Metz, quien señaló que este proyecto ofrecerá la oportunidad a muchos adultos mayores de llegar a su término de vida de una manera digna.
“Se hizo todo lo posible para que este proyecto fuera una realidad; gracias al Ministerio de Educación que hizo la transferencia de los terrenos para esos fines y a todo el que ha dado muestra de voluntad y seguimiento para que la obra que hoy inicia su proceso de construcción sea una realidad”, dijo.
Metz explicó que este tipo de proyectos va de la mano de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible. Recordó, además, que este es un Gobierno de inclusión, de apertura y que no dejará a nadie atrás.
Durante el acto también estuvieron presentes el Ministro de Agricultura, Limber Cruz; la Ministra sin Cartera, Geanilda Vásquez; el administrador del Banco Agrícola, Fernando Durán; el alcalde de Constanza, Juan Agustín Luna Lora; la vicealcaldesa, Belkis Victoriano; el activista social Wady Brea; así como representantes de la sociedad civil.
Entre tanto, la abogada y una de las promotoras del proyecto, Geanilda Vásquez, resaltó que una obra como esta es un acto de reivindicación para los adultos mayores que durante su juventud lo han entregado todo.
“Desde esta obra los adultos mayores podrán tener la dignidad que requiere un adulto mayor; tendrán el cuidado que necesitan y la asistencia médica y social. Vamos a darles seguimiento, entretenimiento porque también hay que ver la parte humana, que se sientan útiles”, precisó.
Mientras que la religiosa sor Ingrid Durán, de las Hermanas del Perpetuo Socorro, agradeció al Presidente Luis Abinader y a todo el que de una u otra manera se unió a este sueño.
“Este proyecto es el sueño y la idea de una hermana del Perpetuo Socorro, Sor Juana María Valdez, quien durante muchos años promovió la idea de un asilo en Constanza. La fecha de inicio de esta obra la tendremos como un acontecimiento histórico en nuestra comunidad, ya que, con la ayuda de Dios, la de nuestro Presidente Luis Abinader y otros tantos hoy se empieza hacer realidad esta obra”, señaló.
