El dominicano Julio Rodríguez, hizo historia este lunes al convertirse en el primer jugador en las Grandes Ligas que alcanza 25 o más cuadrangulares y 25 o más base robadas en cada una de sus dos primeras temporadas.

Rodríguez, recién nombrado Jugador del Mes de la Liga Americana por primera vez en su carrera, conectó un jonrón entre el jardín central y el derecho durante el cuarto inning contra los Rojos de Cincinnati  que lo colocó en los libros de récords de las Grandes Ligas.

El jugador de 22 años posee una rara combinación de poder, velocidad y juventud, ya que sólo otros ocho jugadores han logrado al menos esa cantidad de cuadrangulares y robos en uno de sus dos primeros años en la Gran Carpa.

El 25to bambinazo de Rodríguez fue uno de sus más majestuosos de el 2023, un batazo solitario de 411 pies contra una bola rápida a 95.4 mph del derecho mexicano de los Rojos Daniel Duarte.

También ha acumulado 36 robos, lo que lo coloca en posición de convertirse posiblemente en el cuarto jugador con un año de 25-40 en su temporada de 22 años o menos, junto con Alex Rodríguez en 1998 (42 jonrones, 46 robos), César Cedeño en 1973 (25 y 56) y Mike Trout en 2012 (30 y 49).

Más temprano el lunes, Rodríguez habló sobre ser nombrado el primer Jugador del Mes de los Marineros desde su compatriota Nelson Cruz en abril del 2015.

“Definitivamente ha sido mucho trabajo, pero mucho esfuerzo de equipo también, estábamos todos juntos en esto”, dijo Rodríguez. “Ha sido un mes bastante cool, y deseo seguir así”.

En agosto, lideró a todos los bateadores de la L.A. en hits (45), dobles (10), carreras impulsadas (30), bases robadas (11), promedio de bateo (.429), OBP (.474), slugging (.724) y OPS (1.198). También bateó siete cuadrangulares y registró 13 juegos de dos o más imparables durante el mes, incluidos seis juegos con al menos tres y cinco con al menos cuatro.

El ascenso de Rodríguez hasta convertirse en el mejor bateador de las Grandes Ligas en el último mes ha coincidido con el ascenso de los Marineros al primer puesto del Oeste de la L.A.
