El canciller Roberto Álvarez participará este jueves en una sesión extraordinaria del Consejo Permanente de la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA), donde expondrá la situación que se ha generado entre República Dominicana y Haití, debido a la construcción ilegal de un canal del lado haitiano, para desviar el cauce del río fronterizo Masacre-Dajabón.

El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores informó que este encuentro fue solicitado por República Dominicana, con el propósito de brindar a los países miembros una comprensión precisa del contexto y alcance de la situación en la zona fronteriza y promover la formación de opiniones objetivas.

La institución detalló que la presencia del ministro en la sede de la OEA en Washington es parte de la agenda que el funcionario diplomático agota en Estados Unidos esta semana, donde ya ha participado en la sesión de la Asamblea General de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas, en la que República Dominicana resultó electa para ser miembro del Consejo de Derechos Humanos de ese organismo, para el período 2024-2026, y donde ha sostenido reuniones con líderes para también tratar el tema del canal ilegal y unilateral que construye Haití.
