“La República Dominicana avanza con pasos firmes hacia el desarrollo sostenible de las energías renovables”, así lo afirmó el director ejecutivo de la Comisión Nacional de Energía (CNE), Edward Veras, al encabezar la comitiva que visitó el Parque Solar Fotovoltaico Calabaza I, para conocer los avances del proyecto, ubicado en Calabaza, Galeón, provincia Peravia, y que es desarrollado por la empresa multinacional ACCIONA.
Durante el recorrido o, los representantes de ACCIONA indicaron que Calabaza I generará anualmente 106,877 MWh, energía suficiente para satisfacer la demanda de 54,000 hogares. También explicaron que gracias a esta central se evitará la emisión de 81,000 toneladas de CO2, además de que representa el ahorro de 160,000 barriles de petróleo en importación anual.
Calabaza I ha generado empleos directos e indirectos a un aproximado de 207 personas, lo que conforma el 43 % de la comunidad de Galeón, que tiene una población inferior a los mil habitantes. También, durante su desarrollo se ha manifestado la integración de género, ya que se han contratado mujeres en puestos especializados y de servicios generales.
Un proyecto de alto valor social para la comunidad
Calabaza I trae al país iniciativas sociales para el beneficio de la zona, tales como: Jornada de Salud de Prevención y Control de Diabetes e Hipertensión, Campaña contra el Dengue, ACCIONA Educación, Seguridad Vial Comunitaria, Donación de Madera y Voluntariado Dona un Juguete. A través de estas iniciativas se ha mejorado la calidad de vida de 7,180 personas, de las comunidades Calabaza, Galeón, Angostura y Las Tablas.
Tras culminar la visita, Edward Veras destacó el trato dado por los ejecutivos del proyecto Calabaza I al equipo de la CNE y resaltó el compromiso del gobierno del presidente Luis Abinader de continuar con el trabajo en favor del desarrollo sostenible del Sistema Eléctrico Nacional.
