La República Dominicana participará en los VI Juegos Escolares Centroamericanos y del Caribe, que se celebrarán del 23 al 30 de este mes en Venezuela, informó este lunes el Ministerio de Deportes y Recreación (Miderec).

El viceministro de Deporte Escolar y Universitario, Juan Vila, quien habló en representación del ministro Francisco Camacho, explicó que el país competirá en nueve disciplinas en este importante evento.

“El deporte escolar representa el relevo para los atletas de alto rendimiento y por esto la trascendencia de participar en este gran certamen, del cual estamos esperanzados en que realizaremos un brillante desempeño”, sostuvo Vila, tras el encuentro con los periodistas, efectuado en el salón James Rodríguez del Miderec.

La delegación dominicana competirá en judo, halterofilia, taekwondo, karate, atletismo, tenis de mesa, voleibol masculino, baloncesto 3X3 y ajedrez. 

Vila resaltó que, como en otras ocasiones, el Gobierno dominicano está cubriendo todos los gastos en que incurrirá la delegación para su participación en el evento.

“Ha sido una constante del presidente Abinader y del ministro Camacho disponer de los recursos para nuestras delegaciones, con bastante tiempo de antelación”, agregó el viceministro.

La delegación 

De su lado, Rafael Pérez (Cuchito), director de Deporte Escolar de Miderec y quien será el jefe de misión de la delegación, dijo que la misma estará integrada por 92 atletas, nueve delegados, 12 entrenadores, además de personal médico. 

El viaje de la delegación está programado para este miércoles a las 3:30 de la tarde, con destino a Caracas, Venezuela.

Junto a esta ciudad estarán como subsedes La Guaira y Miranda. La selección de los atletas se produjo tras un amplio proceso de eliminatorias en todo el país realizado con las federaciones correspondientes.

“Tuvimos extensas jornadas durante poco más de tres meses en este proceso de eliminatorias, lo coordinamos con las federaciones deportivas y llevamos el mejor talento posible a este certamen”, expresó Pérez.

En el evento participarán atletas nacidos entre 2006 y 2008, es decir que competirán en edades de 15 a 17 años.

Junto a Vila y Pérez estuvieron presentes en la actividad, Elisa Santa, coordinadora administrativa y Raúl Bazili, coordinador técnico e Idalia Moreno, asistente administrativa.
