SANTO DOMINGO.- El presidente Luis Abinader y el ministro de Turismo, David Collado, dejaron iniciados los trabajos de reconstrucción del Parque Nacional Submarino La Caleta, por un monto superior a los RD $395 millones.
El presidente Abinader manifestó que al igual que el Parque Nacional Submarino La Caleta, se están recuperando otros frentes marítimos y zonas costeras del país, y que a través de CEIZTUR se está ayudando a las zonas turísticas para una reacción rápida de proyectos de escala media y baja de intervención del gobierno, para así mejorar las infraestructuras.
“Obviamente con los números que tenemos en turismo, eso nos dice que está dando resultados y los proyectos y los objetivos que nos hemos trazado han sido exitosos”, indicó el mandatario de la República.
Asimismo, exhortó que la sociedad debe integrarse en los proyectos que se ejecuten y garantizar el cuidado de las obras.

David Collado destacó el impacto de esta obra como emblemática y simbólica, de entrada y salida de la ciudad de Santo Domingo.
“Hoy estamos aquí con ustedes cumpliendo nuestra promesa de atender un viejo reclamo de reconstruir este Parque Nacional Submarino, un símbolo especial de toda esta zona y del país», dijo el ministro Collado.
La intervención se desarrollará en un área general de 119,925 metros cuadrados, dentro de los cuales se realizará un paseo de 2.74 kilómetros, conmemorativo a los países de América y el Caribe, que contempla el remozamiento de (45) Monolitos, ubicados en salida del Aeropuerto Internacional de Las Américas (AILA), juntamente con 20,000 metros cuadrados, aproximadamente, de plazas y senderos internos en parque.
Este incluye la intervención paisajística a todo lo largo del parque, siempre teniendo en cuenta la conservación y preservación de las especies existentes pertenecientes a este Parque Nacional. Además, contará con la construcción de nuevos senderos peatonales, estacionamientos, plazas, zonas de esparcimiento, miradores, área de recreación infantil, y módulo de pérgolas para vendedores.
La ejecución de la obra estará a cargo del Comité Ejecutor de Infraestructuras de Zonas Turística (CEIZTUR), por un monto total de RD$395,404,271.9, también contará con la construcción de un módulo de servicio; que tendrá oficinas, baños y oficinas de Politur.
El Parque Nacional Submarino La Caleta
Fue establecido en 1986 en un esfuerzo de proteger el patrimonio cultural y biológico subacuático presente en el lugar. Dentro del parque se encuentra el Museo Etnológico y Arqueológico Taino descubierto en la playa en la década de los 70, poseedor de una importante colección de objetos taínos.
En el fondo marino de La Caleta se encuentra el naufragio de la fragata Nuestra Señora de Begoña.
