SANTO DOMINGO.-Como tercer tema de los que amenazan la estabilidad que tiene República Dominicana está la situación de Haití, según expresó el presidente Luis Abinader en la Cumbre de Las Américas, donde llamó a la comunidad internacional a sumir un mayor compromiso y urgente para esa nación.

“Tengo la necesidad y el deber de pronunciarme, como en anteriores ocasiones, sobre la imperiosa necesidad de que la Comunidad Internacional, y en particular los países de Las Américas, actúen sin demora ante la dramática situación por la que atraviesa Haití”.

Sostuvo que Haití, que históricamente ha pagado muy caro sus deudas con países desarrollados, “grita, clama por una acción coordinada que pacifique ese país: el más pobre del hemisferio occidental. Es para mí y nuestro gobierno injustificable que esta comunidad de naciones permita que un Estado, en el medio del continente americano, tenga gran parte de su territorio controlado por bandas criminales. El pueblo haitiano está sufriendo las consecuencias de la inestabilidad y la inseguridad que han generado estas pandillas y que obliga a sus ciudadanos a buscar otras alternativas para sobrevivir, aumentando de forma significativa la presión migratoria principalmente sobre República Dominicana y en menor medida a otros países de la región”.

Reiteró que Republica Dominicana no puede cargar sola con los problemas de Haití.

“De hecho ya está haciendo demasiado, mucho más de lo que puede. La situación del vecino país ha desbordado los límites de un problema migratorio; es, para los dominicanos, un tema de seguridad nacional, por lo que haremos lo necesario, como haría todo país soberano ante una amenaza similar, para asegurar adecuadamente nuestra frontera”

Dijo que le compete a la comunidad internacional asumir definitivamente un mayor compromiso con el pueblo haitiano, con una mayor implicación y, de manera urgente, trabajar por su pacificación y recuperación definitiva.

“Es el momento en que todos los países de América trabajemos juntos buscando soluciones a nuestros problemas y que Estados Unidos ponga su mirada en la región y demuestre, una vez más, su compromiso con liderar el desarrollo social y económico de nuestro continente. Si lo hacemos, todos juntos, no solo saldremos de las dificultades y crisis del momento sino que vamos a demostrarle al mundo que somos el continente del futuro”.
