El Consejo Nacional para el Cambio Climático y Mecanismo de Desarrollo Limpio (CNCCMDL) celebró 15 años de ser creado con la misión de diseñar e impulsar las políticas nacionales que garanticen el desarrollo económico y social del país, con una visión de sostenibilidad y con la participación de los sectores productivos, la sociedad civil y las academias.

El evento de celebración del 15.° Aniversario fue encabezado por el vicepresidente ejecutivo del CNCCMDL, Max Puig, quien destacó algunos de los principales logros de la institución y del país en la lucha contra el cambio climático y sus efectos adversos.

“El Consejo Nacional para el Cambio Climático ha asegurado que República Dominicana tenga acceso a millones de dólares de la cooperación internacional para la sostenibilidad. Especialmente en los últimos 5 años hemos accedido a fondos climáticos que financian el desarrollo sostenible y la adaptación a los efectos del cambio climático de manera directa, como es el caso de los Fondos de Inversión para el Clima (CIF), que ya ha aprobado 2 proyectos que traerán cerca de 120 millones de dólares al país para superar el uso del carbón en la generación de energía eléctrica y para mejorar la producción agrícola en la cuenca del río Yuna”, recordó.

En ese sentido, Puig destacó que el CNCCMDL ha demostrado ser una institución efectiva y altamente especializada en la investigación y desarrollo de políticas públicas que impulsen la sostenibilidad del desarrollo económico nacional.

“República Dominicana optó por un sistema de gobernanza para enfrentar los desafíos del cambio climático que se ha convertido en ejemplo para otros países de América Latina y otras regiones del mundo, porque este sistema garantiza que los esfuerzos sean multisectoriales e inclusivos. Este sistema de gobernanza también ha convertido al país en líder y referente para la región del Caribe, por el alto nivel de involucramiento de toda la sociedad del país, en la discusión, el análisis y la toma de decisiones ágil y oportuna ante el cambio climático”, explicó.

El vicepresidente ejecutivo del CNCCMDL también destacó que ese liderazgo se ha expresado en los hechos con el compromiso que la nación ha asumido ante la comunidad internacional y el cumplimiento, sin dudarlo, de los acuerdos climáticos globales.

“Nuestro país no dudó en sumarse y ratificar el Acuerdo de París y con esa misma determinación hemos ido dando cumplimiento a sus exigencias y su contenido. Por ejemplo, el país actualizó su Contribución Nacionalmente Determinada en 2020 y en ella aumentó su ambición y su compromiso gubernamental tanto en la reducción de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (GEI), como en la adaptación a los efectos del cambio climático”, precisó.

Max Puig también recordó que República Dominicana fue el cuarto país de América Latina y el Caribe que estableció la creación del sistema de Monitoreo, Verificación y Reporte de las emisiones de GEI, gracias a la aprobación del Decreto 541-20.

Reconocimientos Sostenibles

En ocasión de su 15.° Aniversario, el Consejo Nacional para el Cambio Climático y Mecanismo de Desarrollo Limpio reconoció, por segundo año consecutivo, a las empresas certificadas por cumplir con la Neutralidad de Carbono.

En tal sentido fueron reconocidas las empresas Aeropuerto Internacional Cibao, Banco Popular, la Corporación Minera Dominicana, Cormidom, Sicpa Dominicana y Ron Barceló. Mientras que EGE Haina recibió un reconocimiento especial por ser la primera empresa del país en comerciar certificados de reducción de emisiones de GEI en los mercados internacionales.

El CNCCMDL también otorgó Menciones Especiales a la Fundación Popular, Ecored, el Consejo Nacional de la Empresa Privada (Conep), la Cervecería Nacional Dominicana y la Asociación Dominicana de Cementos Portland (Adocem), por el impulso de la alianza público-privada “RDucetuHuella”, en la que participaron desde el sector público el CNCCMDL y el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales. La misma motivó a más de una docena de empresas a medir y reducir su huella de carbono.

Por ello, también fueron reconocidas las 17 empresas que completaron dicho proceso para medir y reducir su huella de carbono.
