SANTO DOMINGO.- El «masivo» flujo de ciudadanos haitianos a la República Dominicana es «insostenible», afirmó hoy el Gobierno dominicano después de que un experto de la ONU pidiera detener las repatriaciones debido a la grave crisis que atraviesa Haití.
«Siendo igualmente un país en vías de desarrollo, y no responsable de la situación haitiana, resulta desproporcionado e irrazonable pretender que nuestro país cargue con la responsabilidad de asegurar el bienestar social de los haitianos», indicó el Gobierno dominicano en un comunicado emitido por el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores.
Esta, agregó, «es una obligación irrenunciable del Estado haitiano, y en su defecto, una responsabilidad compartida de la comunidad internacional».
«El deber del Gobierno dominicano es, en primer lugar, con sus ciudadanos», agregó la nota, en respuesta a unas declaraciones del experto independiente en derechos humanos para Haití del Alto Comisionado de la ONU para los derechos humanos, William O’Neill, quien pidió que no continúen las repatriaciones de haitianos, debido al estado de inseguridad que vive ese país.
El comunicado recoge datos que indican que en 2022 República Dominicana deportó 120.900 extranjeros irregulares, casi todos de origen haitiano.
Asimismo, cita cifras del Servicio Nacional de Salud (SNS), que señalan que en 2018, el 12,5% de los nacimientos en toda la red pública correspondían a madres haitianas.
Esta proporción aumentó al 23,7 % en 2019, al 27,2 % en 2020, al 30,5 % en 2021, al 33.1 % en 2022 y al 34 % en 2023 (según datos hasta mayo).
