La República Dominicana está a punto de dejar su huella en la industria cinematográfica latinoamericana, ya que dos películas, "Tíguere", dirigida y producida por José María Cabral, junto con "Pepe, la Imaginación en el Tercer Cine", dirigida por Nelson Carlo de los Santos Arias y producida por Tanya Valette y Pablo Lozano, han sido seleccionadas para participar en la prestigiosa sección "Copia Final" del mercado de contenidos audiovisuales más importante de América Latina, Ventana Sur.

Este evento tendrá lugar en Buenos Aires, Argentina, del 27 de noviembre al 1 de diciembre de 2023.

Este logro marca la primera vez que dos largometrajes dominicanos forman parte de esta destacada sección, la cual se enfoca en películas recién finalizadas, sin estreno previo dentro o fuera de sus países de producción y en busca de oportunidades con agentes de ventas, distribuidores y programadores de festivales internacionales.

La selección de estas películas se llevó a cabo a través de un riguroso proceso de evaluación encabezado por el jurado presidido por Eva Morch-Kihn, que seleccionó sólo 6 películas de un total de 179, dos de ellas dominicanas. Cabe destacar que en 2016 la película "Carpinteros" de José María Cabral, también fue seleccionada en esta sección, lo que llevó a importantes logros en el marco de Ventana Sur, incluyendo su adquisición por parte de Film Factory Entertainment.

La delegación que representará a la República Dominicana en Ventana Sur estará encabezada por Marianna Vargas Gurilieva, directora general de la Dirección General de Cine (DGCINE), quien promoverá al país como socio coproductor y destino de filmación. Lía Báez, encargada de Relaciones Internacionales de la DGCINE, también desempeñará un papel crucial en esta destacada presencia dominicana.

Para cumplir dicho propósito, la Dirección General de Cine contará con presencia institucional para propiciar rondas de coproducción, participar en paneles y estará dando acompañamiento a los talentos dominicanos que competirán.

"Como industria cinematográfica dominicana, nos sentimos sumamente emocionados con este importante hito, en el que un tercio de las películas en esta sección son dominicanas, lo que demuestra la solidez y madurez que están adquiriendo nuestros proyectos", expresó Marianna Vargas Gurilieva, con entusiasmo por este logro.

Vargas Gurilieva también enfatizó el compromiso constante de la institución en apoyar proyectos como "Pepe", ganador del Concurso Público Fonprocine en las categorías de Desarrollo de Proyectos en 2020 y Producción de Largometraje de Ficción en 2021, además de recibir fondos de Ibermedia en 2020, del cual República Dominicana es miembro. También mencionó que "Tíguere", sirvió como piloto para el programa de DGCINE en "Mi Primer Empleo en Cine", una exitosa iniciativa que facilita la formación e integración de jóvenes cineastas en la industria cinematográfica nacional.

La delegación dominicana en Ventana Sur también contará con la presencia de los cineastas Jeremy García, Fabiola Rosso y Joery Santos, quienes participarán en la sección "Animation!", un espacio exclusivo para proyectos de animación que tiene como objetivo impulsar a los profesionales de la región, fomentar alianzas estratégicas y promover el talento local en otros mercados.

La aerolínea Arajet demuestra su compromiso con el cine nacional al brindar un valioso respaldo a la delegación dominicana en Ventana Sur. Esta colaboración se traduce en un apoyo fundamental para la presencia y promoción de la cinematografía dominicana en el ámbito internacional. La delegación dominicana abordará un vuelo de la nueva ruta de Arajet que conecta Santo Domingo con Buenos Aires, Argentina.
