El presidente Luis Abinader asistió a la inauguración de la nueva academia de los Cerveceros de Milwaukee, en Santo Domingo Este, con capacidad para aproximadamente 100 jugadores y con tres campos completos de juego, un cuadro interior, un campo de agilidad y una instalación de bateo cubierta con cuatro túneles, levantados en más de 1.3 millones de metros cuadrados.
A su salida del evento, el mandatario conversó con los periodistas presentes y resaltó que todas las academias están invirtiendo en el país, lo cual refleja el crecimiento del deporte. "Tienen la confianza de que el Gobierno los va a seguir apoyando".
Durante el acto, el ministro de Deportes, Francisco Camacho, destacó que República Dominicana es el único país que alberga instalaciones de los 30 equipos de grandes ligas y agregó que esta apertura de una nueva academia se realiza gracias a las condiciones de estabilidad jurídica y económica y la transparencia que existe en la presente gestión de Gobierno.
Asimismo, el propietario de los Cerveceros, Mark Attanasio; el vicepresidente senior y gerente general, Matt Arnold y el director de Operaciones para América Latina, Manuel Vargas, expresaron su agradecimiento al presidente Abinader por el honor de su presencia en el acto y dijeron que comparten su visión de exaltar la importancia de la educación en los jugadores con esta nueva academia, que representa un impacto positivo en el país y en toda Latinoamérica.
Previo al corte de cinta, al presidente Abinader le fue entregada una chaqueta del equipo con el número 1.
