RD y Cuba unirán capacidades para desarrollar Atlas de Riesgo Climático

República Dominicana y Cuba exploran vías de intercambio y colaboración para impulsar los Atlas de Riesgo Climático de ambos países, basándose en las capacidades y fortalezas que cada uno de ellos ha desarrollado en materia de observación geoespacial; recolección y sistematización de datos, y desarrollo de las plataformas tecnológicas.

Así lo informó el vicepresidente ejecutivo del Consejo Nacional para el Cambio Climático y Mecanismo de Desarrollo Limpio (CNCCMDL), Max Puig, a raíz de la visita a la República Dominicana de Maritza García, presidenta de la Agencia de Medio Ambiente (AMA), del Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología y Medio Ambiente (CITMA), de Cuba.

“Cuba ha desarrollado y actualiza cada año, desde hace varias décadas, su Atlas Nacional basado en los datos geográficos, geológicos, topográficos y de distinta índole, pero que no ha sido llevado aún a plataformas digitales, mientras que República Dominicana está desarrollando el Atlas de Riesgo Climático 100 % digital, cuyo mayor desafío es abarcar la cantidad y calidad de datos necesarios para su máximo aprovechamiento”, explicó.

Puig insistió en que las fortalezas de ambos países son complementarias, por lo que pueden desarrollar en conjunto sus capacidades de prevención y mitigación de riesgo de desastres por eventos hidrometeorológicos, asociados al cambio climático.

“Cuánto más sepamos acerca de cómo se comportan los fenómenos naturales y, al mismo tiempo conozcamos las características geográficas y de infraestructura de nuestros territorios, mayor capacidad tendremos de prevenir riesgos y responder a los eventos naturales”, aseveró.

Además de la presidenta de la Agencia de Medio Ambiente Cuba (AMA), Maritza García, formó parte de la delegación cubana, el presidente de la Fundación IRIS Unidos por el Clima, Rudy Montero Mata.
