El miércoles, Rafael Uribe, presidente de Fedombal, había dejado abierta la posibilidad de que Towns se uniera a la preselección nacional en España, durante su preparación para el Mundial, y la publicación hecha ayer por el estelar jugador, confirma que será una realidad su incorporación a la escuadra tricolor.
“Me siento muy motivado y emocionado, será grandioso representar a República Dominicana en el mejor evento FIBA”, enfatizó la estrella de los Wolves en su live de Instagram.

“República Dominicana es el país que me dio la primera gran oportunidad de integrar una selección; la gente allá me hizo sentir grande y me trataron súper, siendo apenas un jovencito que buscaba progresar en este deporte”, dijo Towns.
El pívot de Minnesota recordó que República Dominicana es también el país natal de su fallecida madre Jacqueline Cruz, por lo que para él “es muy especial ponerme esa camiseta”.
“Es sumamente importante para mí volver a mis raíces, es más que un honor formar equipo y representar a mi gente”, dijo Towns.
“Vamos allá, arriba RD, ready para el Mundial”, enfatizó Towns. Tras los primeros 30 minutos de haber subido la publicación del live que confirma su integración al equipo nacional de mayores, éste había generado 2,500 comentarios y 16,572 like, todos dándole la bienvenida y celebrando su esperada decisión.
