El Ministerio de Inversión de Reino de Arabia Saudita, Invest Saudi y la Asociación de Agencias de Promoción de Inversiones del Caribe (CAIPA), con el apoyo del Centro de Exportación e Inversión de la República Dominicana (ProDominicana), dan inicio hoy al Foro de Inversión del Caribe y Arabia Saudita, en el cual participarán 15 delegaciones de diferentes países.

El encuentro tiene el objetivo de identificar proyectos y oportunidades de inversión en las naciones representadas mediante conferencias y reuniones B2B, por lo que los asistentes conocerán los atractivos de la República Dominicana, así como de los países de la región, incluyendo la cartera de proyectos con mayores proyecciones de retorno para inversores.

“Dentro de su agenda de trabajo, se busca estrechar los lazos comerciales que nos unen como región y conocer los mecanismos de inversión del Reino de Arabia Saudita. Con la realización del foro, la República Dominicana muestra sus atractivos y tiene la oportunidad de consolidar su liderazgo en torno a mecanismos de potenciar la región con fines comerciales, así como en la identificación y captación de nueva Inversión Extranjera Directa (IED), pues en el evento se encuentran representantes de empresas valoradas en billones de dólares de los sectores de energía, aviación, manufactura, industria, agroindustrial, turismo, salud, entre otras”, dijo Biviana Riveiro, directora ejecutiva de ProDominicana.

Riveiro agregó que, “es el mejor momento para invertir en República Dominicana: En los sectores turismo, bienes raíces, minería, energía, telecomunicaciones, zonas francas y transporte. El país está teniendo un buen momento en materia de IED. Sólo en el trimestre enero – marzo de este año, el país recibió un monto equivalente a los USD 1,028 millones por este concepto”.

En términos de las relaciones con Arabia Saudita, en el período anual de 2015-2021 el intercambio ascendió a USD 101.2 millones y para mayo de 2022 aumentó a USD 117.6 millones, para un incremento de USD 16.4 millones. Cabe resaltar que en relación con el 2020, las exportaciones dominicanas en el 2021 crecieron en un 800 %, siendo el 96.8 % correspondiente a importaciones de bienes (principalmente de polipropileno) y el restante 3.2% a las exportaciones dominicanas de papel y desperdicios de papel, dispositivos médicos, zapatos, equipos de agricultura, cigarros, agua.

La vicepresidenta de CAIPA y presidenta de Jampro, Diane Edwards, señaló que este Foro abre una nueva puerta a la inversión en la región, ya que participan más de 150 empresarios y representantes gubernamentales de las agencias de promoción de inversión, incluyendo los ministros de países del Caribe: Ministerio de Educación, Cultura, Ciencia y Tecnología de Belice; Ministerio de Desarrollo Económico de Curazao, Ministerio de Asuntos Económicos de Bahamas; Ministerios de Turismo e Inversión de Jamaica; Ministerio de Turismo, Inversión y Desarrollo Económico de Antigua & Barbuda.

Por su parte, el Jefe de la Delegación del Reino de Arabia Saudita, su excelencia Badr Albadr, viceministro del Ministerio de Inversiones, indicó que con el Foro se persigue crear lazos con la región y dentro de sus responsabilidades identifica inversiones saudíes en el extranjero, con lo que se facilita y promueve que las empresas saudíes líderes y competitivas desarrollen y amplíen sus inversiones y negocios a nivel internacional, incluso mediante la colaboración con gobiernos extranjeros, socios comerciales extranjeros y clientes.

CAIPA

CAIPA es una asociación regional de agencias promotoras de inversión en el Caribe que se han unido para colaborar en la promoción del Caribe como destino ideal para inversiones. La Asociación también trabaja para fomentar entre sus miembros la capacidad de atraer inversiones, realizar investigaciones, recolectar datos y promover proyectos de inversión en la región, así como facilitar misiones de inversiones internas y externas en colaboración con sus miembros.

ProDominicana es una de las 24 agencias de promoción que conforman la asociación. Asimismo, en el Foro de Inversiones del Caribe y Arabia Saudita participaron delegaciones de Antigua y Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belice, Bermuda, Curazao, Guyana, Haití, Jamaica, Santa Lucía, San Vicente y Granadinas, Trinidad y Tobago, El Salvador y Arabia Saudita.
