La delegación de la República Dominicana que participó recientemente en los Juegos Mundiales Especiales de Berlín 2023, en Alemania, consiguió una actuación histórica con ocho medallas de oro, cuatro de plata y dos de bronce.
Para la participación de los atletas dominicanos en el magno evento internacional, que se celebró del 12 al 26 de junio, el Gobierno, a través del Ministerio de Deportes y Recreación (MIDEREC), hizo entrega de recursos por un monto de 3.2 millones de pesos.
Ese apoyo hizo convertir la actuación quisqueyana (la más importante de los últimos años) en 14 medallas, distribuidas en ocho de oro, correspondientes a siete de gimnasia, y una de natación, así como otras cuatro de plata y dos de bronce que lograron los gimnastas especiales.
El aporte gubernamental se destinó para cubrir los boletos aéreos, la estadía y alimentación para los 13 atletas especiales que participaron en el certamen, además de los entrenadores y miembros de la organización.
Los atletas dominicanos compitieron en atletismo, natación, gimnasia y boliche, en la cita internacional que reunió más de 7,000 atletas, 170 países y 25 deportes.
En la natación, los quisqueyanos también ocuparon un quinto, sexto y séptimo lugar; en atletismo, alcanzaron un cuarto, sexto y octavo puesto y en boliche, séptimo y octavo lugar en pareja unificada.
Se recuerda que la entrega de los recursos en la despedida de la delegación dominicana estuvo a cargo del viceministro administrativo de Deportes, Franklin De la Mota, en representación del titular de la cartera, Francisco Camacho, y recibieron la directora de Olimpiadas Especiales, Montserrat Puig; José Paulino, director del Programa para Atletas de Alto Rendimiento (PARNI), y José Luis Suero, enlace entre MIDEREC y las federaciones deportivas, en un acto realizado en el salón James Rodríguez de la cartera.
Para la ocasión, De la Mota dijo sentirse orgulloso por el apoyo del Gobierno a esta participación de los atletas nacionales en Olimpiadas Especiales y exteriorizó que de ellos se esperaba una actuación digna.
Destacó, por igual, que el presidente de la República, Luis Abinader siempre ha mostrado un gran soporte a la inclusión. “Nuestro gran interés es que vengan con la bandera siempre en alto”, agregó De la Mota, al resaltar el respaldo del ministro Francisco Camacho.
